1000 rescued as Houston hit by 'catastrophic floods' — Storm Harvey

Paying more at the pump? Blame Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey update for Saturday, August 26

Flood damage in Texas from Hurricane Harvey may equal that from 2005's Hurricane Katrina, the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history, said an insurance research group on Sunday.

Rockport Mayor Charles "C.J".

City officials urged flooded residents to head to their roofs, not their attics. Schools were also damaged. On Friday, offshore oil and gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico were evacuating platforms and rigs before the storm hit, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Houston is the country's fourth biggest city, with 6.6m people living in the metropolitan area. It is unclear as to whether all eight reported deaths are from the mobile home park or other parts of the city.

As of Saturday morning, Harvey was downgraded to a Category 1 storm with winds of up to 75mph and is expected to weaken into a tropical storm later in the day.

Coastal areas are now hunkering down in anticipation of severe flooding as a result of overflowing rivers and bayous. If this nearly unfathomable rainfall total is realized, it would qualify as the most rainfall from any tropical cyclone (hurricane or tropical storm) in U.S. history, according to meteorologist Michael Lowry.

Chris Rosso of Springfield told 22News, he doesn't think 25 cents is that big of a difference for drivers.

The New York Air National Guard is heading to Texas and Louisiana, bringing aircraft, vessels and manpower to respond to Hurricane Harvey.

Trump also said that he would visit Houston at a future date when his visit would not disrupt response efforts.

In another tweet, he said: "Good news is that we have great talent on the ground".

"Catastrophic and life-threatening flooding is occurring in southeastern Texas, and flash flood emergencies are in effect for portions of this area". Our building was just shaking back and forth. It continues to produce gusts of up to 120 mph (193 kph) and sustained winds of 90 mph (144 kph). The National Hurricane Center warns of "catastrophic flooding" over the next few days. But Rockport Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Sims said early Saturday that firefighters were hunkered down at the city's fire station waiting for conditions to improve to assess the damage.

Hurricane Harvey still poses a deadly threat across the US Gulf Coast.

In Massachusetts, Gov. Charlie Baker said he texted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott "before the storm hit and told him whatever we could do to help we'd be in with both feet on". The city's parks and main zoo also are closed.

Abbott has issued a state disaster declaration for 50 counties in the state. Sherwood added the task force expects heavy rain and flooding will devastate many areas, but they're ready to save lives.

Harvey is moving toward the southeast near 2 mph and a slow southeastward to east-southeastward motion is expected over the next couple of days.
